Pop down to a planet summon the Nautilon, hop in and once you have the sonar upgrade installed you will see an option to scan for crashed freighters. Also, you can scan for crashed ships as well. This is the easiest method I have found if I need to find a crashed freighter or am crashed ship hunting. Good stuff.
